Vasantha Kanukuntla, OD
Vasantha Kanukuntla earned her Doctor of Optometry degree and Master’s in vision science degree from the University of Alabama College of Optometry, where she graduated as a Beta Sigma Kappa honor student. She was also a member of American Optometric Student Association and National Optometric student association. As a part of her studies, she completed her clinical rotations from Alabama Ophthalmology associates, Retina Consultants of Alabama, Simon Williamsons clinic, and Kleiman Evangelista eye center in Arlington, Texas.
Dr. Kanukuntla is currently a fellow of American Academy of Optometry. She is also a volunteer for the Alexander Eye Clinic at Cook Children’s Medical Center. Apart from pediatric eye conditions, Dr. Kanukuntla has a vast experience in cornea and contact lenses and anterior segment disease management. She is proficient in management of complex contact lens cases, like Keratoconus, using Gas permeable, Rose K, and Scleral lenses.
Before moving to United States, Dr. Kanukuntla worked at L V Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad for ten years. Prasad Eye Institute is world renowned and a prestigious tertiary eye care center in India. Dr. Kanukuntla worked in various ocular subspecialities. She worked as a clinical investigator in various cornea and contact lens clinical trials conducted in collaboration with Brien Holden Vision Institute formerly known as vision CRC. She also worked as a teaching faculty at Bausch and Lomb school of Optometry and for Indian contact lens education program.
Apart from her passion towards eye care. Dr. Kanukuntla also earned her MBA in corporate finance from University of Dallas and has a Master’s degree in Human Resources. During her free time, Dr. Kanukuntla enjoys listening to music and spending time with her husband and her 2 younger children.
